Doris Jean Little Rich of Orlando, Florida, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 30th, 2010 with her family by her side. Dottie was born on May 6, 1929 in Charlotte, North Carolina as the daughter of Norma and Wilson Little. Dottie grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina graduating from Greensboro Senior High School in 1947 and King’s Business College in 1948. Dottie married Chief Master Sergeant Alton Bradley Rich Jr. in 1952 and as a military couple; they traveled the world together making many lifelong friends. After living many years on the west coast, Dottie and her family established residency in Orlando, Florida in 1972.
Dottie not only enjoyed but had a true talent for writing, sewing and craft projects. She took great pride in creating beautiful costumes and authoring or altering plays and live stories to be performed by special needs adults. Dottie was a loyal servant of the Lord and served as the Director of the Special Education Department at Delaney Street Baptist Church for over 25 years. She was committed to ensuring the special needs adults of Central Florida had a place to call their own for worship. She loved each and every one of her “kids” with unconditional and godly love.
Dottie loved her family and she was deeply loved as well. She was a faithful attendee of family reunions and “Cuzzins Week”, many times including friends that did not have families such as her own. She is accredited for establishing many family traditions and made sure that those traditions were held to. She would travel near and far in loving support and fellowship with her beloved family and friends.
Dottie is survived by her son, Bill Rich; her daughter and husband, Pam and Craig Hutchinson; two grandchildren, Craig and Hannah; her nephew and his wife, Bradley and Pat Rich; her great niece and her husband, Leslie and Travis Roberts; and their child Madeline; her great nephew, Christopher Rich. She is further survived by many beloved cousins and lifelong friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Alton Bradley Rich Jr. (Pete).
A celebration of Dottie’s life will begin with visitation on Thursday evening, April 1, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Delaney Street Baptist Church with the funeral services following on Friday, April 2nd, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
