Born in Wytheville, Va., to Ray and Ann Meyers, the family moved to Miami in 1949 where they lived until moving to Orlando in 1960. Jerry graduated from Evans High School in 1966.
Jerry’s first job was with his family’s business, American Pest Control. In 1968, he married Lynn Marie Beatty and moved to Inverness to manage American Paint Store. From there, he and Lynn, along with newborn daughter Michelle, moved back to Orlando in 1970 where Jerry managed American Paint and a year later, son Zack was born.
In 1977, when daughter Karen was born, Jerry became an independent contractor selling paint and painting supplies, most notably Purdy brushes. The family settled into their dream house on Lake Holden in 1984, where Jerry taught everyone how to swim and ski like true Floridians.
Color Wheel Paints recruited Jerry as their decorative concrete specialist in 2003, a position he held for ten years. After retiring in 2013, he also served as a consultant to SunColor paint.
Above all, Jerry loved his family. His favorite past time was watching his grandchildren argue over who got to give him their ice cream. An avid Florida State University fan, he traveled many weekends to games in Tallahassee and the rest of the country to watch his beloved Seminoles play. He also enjoyed golfing, motor cross, water skiing and camping, and for his 40thwedding anniversary, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of surfing in Hawaii.
A lifetime blood donor, he also volunteered at Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, since he also was a sucker for a wagging tail. In lieu of flowers family is requesting donations be made in his name to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Lynn; his children Michelle (John) Hines, Zachary (Gina) Meyers and Karen (Andy) Ray; and his siblings Raymond J. (Carol) Meyers, Paul Tennis (Debbie) Meyers and Kim (Kurt) Bozenhardt. "Pop" will always be remembered by his six grandchildren, John-Logan, Jenna and Jared Hines, Kaya and Zayne Meyers and Zara Ray. Additionally, as a big brother to his Beatty siblings/in-laws for 46 years he will be missed by family and friends and many nieces and nephews who love him to the moon and back.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the
Baldwin Fairchild Pine Castle Memorial Chapel
5800 Hansel Ave. Orlando, FL 32839.
An Open House lakeside celebration of Jerry's life will immediately follow the service at his home.
