Born on August 23, 1935, in Jaruco, Havana, Cuba, Ismael was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to so many. He was also a devoted servant of the Lord.
Ismael lived a life deeply rooted in faith and love for his family. He embodied God’s golden rule and was dedicated to his family, church, and community. On March 30, 2025, heaven welcomed this faithful servant.
Born to Jacobo Hernandez and Juana Felipe, Ismael spent 65 years of his life with his beloved wife, Ramona Hernandez. Together, they had three children: Ismael, Israel, and Millie Brinson. He was also the proud grandfather of seven: Alexis Hernandez, Anthony Hernandez, Madelin Schneck, Jacob Hernandez, Michael Hernandez, Katie Rodriguez, and Abigail Brinson. His legacy further lives on through his great-granddaughter, Ramona Schneck.
Ismael attended the Colegio de Belén in Havana, Cuba, where he studied under the Salesian Order, and later pursued higher education at the Academia Rabina in Havana, where he earned his degree as an accountant. On April 8, 1959, he married Ramona, the love of his life.
In 1962, Ismael fled the oppression of Cuba, seeking a better life in the United States. Three years later, he was joined by his wife and two sons, settling in Union City, New Jersey, where he raised his family, and his third child was born. In 1973, the family moved to Orlando, FL, where Ismael began a remarkable 27-year career at Walt Disney World as a master craftsman. He was responsible for creating iconic character heads and served as the head craftsman for Disney on Ice Shows. Additionally, he opened "Fine Jewelry by Ismael" in 1995, a successful jewelry store that he ran until his retirement in 2007.
A dedicated member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Ismael was active in various church committees, including St. Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus, Cursillista, and Luz y Vida. He also served as an usher and Spanish Catechism Coordinator, always giving of his time and talents to serve others.
Ismael’s love of life was evident in his many hobbies. He was an avid fan of trying new cuisines, fishing, and spending time with his family on vacations. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and cheering on soccer teams. As a proud immigrant, Ismael was deeply grateful for the opportunities he found in America.
Known for his warm smile, kind words, and unwavering faith, Ismael was a true role model—living a life of love, service, and devotion. His legacy as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend will be cherished by all who knew him.
Ismael is preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ramona; his three children; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters.
