Rafael was born on March 15, 1930, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to the late Rafael Campos Hernandez and Emerita Hernandez. He lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.
He proudly served in the United States Army for 20 years, followed by another 20 years of service with the National Cemetery. After his military and cemetery service, Rafael continued to give back through his work at the VA Hospital and later as a crossing guard for a local elementary school. He was deeply loved by the children and families he served and often received cards and gifts from the students he helped safely cross the street—tokens of the joy and kindness he brought into their daily lives.
On December 22, 1951, Rafael married the love of his life, Nectar, and together they shared a devoted marriage spanning more than seven decades. He was a passionate sports fan and took great pride in watching his sons play, always serving as their biggest cheerleader.
Rafael was preceded in death by his beloved son, Danny Campos.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nectar; his children, Ismael Campos, Bobby Campos, and Martita Campos; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchild; and family members and friends who loved and cherished him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Rafael’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
