Rita C. Ryan Engelkes

Engelkes, Rita C., age 91 of Orlando, passed away August 15, 2011. She was born, January 14, 1920 in Philadelphia to James and Mary Ann Ryan. A WWII veteran, Mrs. Engelkes was a Nurse in the US Navy from 1942-1952. Rita moved to Orlando in 1969, and was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church as well as Mary, Queen of the Universe Basilica. Rita also worked for many years as a nurse at Florida Manor Catholic Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Engelkes and is survived by her daughter, Mariann Bonnewitz, her son-in-law, Paul Bonnewitz, as well as a large loving family of nieces, nephews, in-laws and many friends. A visitation will be held Saturday, August 20th at 12:30 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass to follow at 1:30 pm at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your local Toys for Tots.
