Ronald Christie joined the Air Force after high school and was subsequently stationed at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines where he ultimately met his loving wife Vickie of almost 50 years. Ronald spent many years in the Philippines, even after leaving the military and during that time he became a well respected and successful business man and entrepreneur. He was a member of the Hotel and Restaurant Association and an officer of the Rotary Club of Angeles City. His ability to execute his creative visions for the different businesses made him one of the most respected entrepreneurs in town. Being an entrepreneur was one of Ron’s biggest passions. Some of the businesses he owned were The Sea Room, Bali Hai Beach Resort, The Crow’s Nest, Fantasy Island Restaurant, Los Amigos, Rosie O’Grady’s, The Captains Table Restaurant, The Varsity and Bale’ Herencia (Heritage House) to name a few.
Ronald had very strong ties to the community and his employees. During times of crisis, Ron and his wife Vickie would help however they could, but most particularly during Mt. Pinatubo’s devastating eruption. The weekend Mt. Pinatubo erupted was the day he and Vickie were supposed to open their new restaurant El Ranchito. They donated the food that was in the coolers for the restaurant to all their employees and provided running water to many neighbors by using a generator to pump water from a well.
Ronnie, as he was fondly referred to by friends and family loved to fish, loved animals, loved the Miami Dolphins but most of all he loved his family more than anything. Almost everything he did revolved around those he loved, whether it was calling his mom to check up on her or talking to his brother Steve every day for at least an hour or he and his wife Vickie watching Wheel of Fortune and competing for best player when Jeopardy was on. Ron never took himself too seriously and had a mischievous, playful personality and amusing sense of humor. He insisted the family play board games whenever they got together and one of his favorite games was Trivial Pursuit. Ron was chock full of useless and useful knowledge which made him a great player and competitor. He loved aquariums and had one in almost every home he ever lived in.
Ron was a loving, caring, thoughtful, generous, kind man who will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Ron is predeceased by his father Mal Irby, stepfather George Christie, mother Evelyn Marie Christie and brother Doug Christie. He is survived by his wife Vicenta 'Vickie' Arbues Christie and children David Heiss, Michele Christie, Raymond (Nenita) Christie and Carmen (Michael) Ramirez. Ron also leaves behind his brothers Steve Christie and Dana (Joy B.) Christie along with his grandchildren Danielle Christie, Stephen Christie, Nick Christie, Jennifer Lee Espinoza, Steven Ramirez and Justin Ramirez and his great-grandson Niko Espinoza.
A celebration of life service will be held at Family Funeral Care in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00am.
