Roy Pauley began his gospel singing career over 60 years ago in Charleston, West Virginia where he was born and raised. By the early 60s, his music ministry had spread to the tri-state region of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
Roy's career was interrupted by a two-year stint in the Army from 1969 to 1971, including a year's duty in Vietnam as a field medic. Upon his return from military duty, he resumed his music career and has been involved in full-time concert and evangelistic singing ever since.
While serving as singing evangelist for a series of evangelistic meetings in Ottawa, Ontario in 1974, Roy met his wife, Amy. They were married in November of 1974. Amy became not only his life partner but also his piano accompanist. Not only is she an accomplished pianist, she is also a fine singer and joins Roy on an occasional duet.
During the past several years, Roy has been a feature soloist on a few of the Bill Gaither video productions and he also makes an occasional appearance as a soloist on Gaither's live concerts.
in 2001, Roy was chosen to sing bass on the legendary Hovie Lister's final recording. This recording, made over three weeks prior to Hovie's death, featured lead singer Jack Toney, baritone Buddy Burton (both former members of the famous Statesmen Quartet), John Rulapaugh, who at the time was tenor for the Palmetto State Quartet, Roy Pauler on bass and, of course, Hovie Lister at the piano. This group was labeled as 'The Grand Ole Gospel Reunion Quartet'.
Roy is known nationwide for his 'In My Opinion' column in the Singing News magazine which has been read monthly by gospel music enthusiasts for the past 37 years.
It has always been Roy and Amy Pauley's desire to point men, women, boys and girls to the Christ who is able to meet our great spiritual needs through their Christ-Centered music.
Roy was also an accomplished portrait artist.
A Memorial service for Roy will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Winter Haven Seventh Day Adventist Church, 401 Avenue K, SE, Winter Haven, FL 33880.
A Memorial Service will also be held Saturday, September 30th at 2 PM at First baptist Church of Gibsonton in Gibsonton, FL.
