Violet & I belong to the same family tree. We were contemporaries who grew up in the same time & slightly different space. We even migrated to the US just a couple of months apart. Between then & retirement , we enjoyed several memorable trips & visitations w/ enormous delight.
And “tho’ nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass “ as a poet writes,
we immensely thank God for having been a part of her life replete w/ gentleness, kindness & more endearing traits that will undoubtedly be carried on by her family- Gil, Verna & Vernon.
Dear Violet, you are cherished. May angels carry you to the gates of Heaven!

Auntie Violet is a very loving person specially to us her relatives.  I remember when we went to Orlando, FL we attended kuya Vernon’s wedding where she took care of us and gave everything we need and treated us on special vacation.  She’s very generous and supportive aunt.  She is very jolly, funny, down to earth.  Auntie Violet is one of our wedding Godmother we will never forget her having fun with us on our wedding day.  We love you auntie Violet forever in our hearts.

Upon hearing about the sad news about my longtime dear friend Violy’s passing, my heart sank and the days that followed filled my mind mostly of the long strand of friendship days since I arrived here in the U.S. in 1969.
Violy’s one of the three other friends that I lived with in the same house we rented  in  Pontiac.  I was immediately drawn to Violy  for I felt so much at ease with her .Violy’s  exuberance, kindness, lively and happy spirit, skills in cooking, dancing and singing coupled with the sweet ring of her hearty laughters are enough to brighten up even the  dullest days! Our days in Pontiac was followed by a long years of friendship between Violy and me and then  my family and hers in the many years that followed. 
The school year in 1969 brought us to Flint when Violy, our other friends who were also teachers and I moved to Flint for our new  teaching jobs. While living in Flint we  met other Filipinos who became our mutual friends up to the present. Violy was never short in welcoming others to her and Gil’s home. Violy will alway offer their house to be the venue for celebrations  for special occasions of the year such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year etc. so we can all have fun together. There we will eat, dance, sing, play games, laugh, talk endlessly and just have a great time together. She did most of the cooking and we just brought  a dish to pass. Pretty soon she spearheaded the assigning among us close friends  to host special occasions’ celebrations so we can all get together and have fun together. I still remember how i  eagerly looked forward to every occasions  because I was so sure we’ve something fun to go to every time. I missed that a lot when Violy and Gill left Michigan  for Florida. 
Right now my mind’s  filled  with so many memories of Violy that I will never forget! I will surely miss you, Violy! Rest in heavenly peace and thank  you for all the beautiful memories you left behind to remember you by! Till we meet again! 


Auntie Violy was like a second mother to me, as she was the most loving, caring, and selfless person I have ever known. She sacrificed her life to take care of my children while I worked nights to support my family. I am forever grateful of everything she has done in my life. Your kind soul will never be forgotten Auntie Violy❤️

What I remember most fondly of Manang Violet was that she was always happy, positive, and outgoing. I remember memorable visits to her house in Flint MI as a child, and Clio as a young adult, and finally being her neighbor with my own family for 15 years in the Wedgefield neighborhood of Orlando, FL. During all those times she was always very welcoming and hospitable. Despite a little accident as kids in Flint while riding bicycles with Verna and Vernon in their back alley that resulted in a scar on Vernon's ankle, she never got mad despite how worried I was for accidentally hurting her son during playtime, she just cleaned up his wound and told us to be careful next time, then proceeded to feed us.  When we visited her family in Clio she shared her experiences as a teacher, the challenges of teaching, how hard she worked, and that she looked forward to retirement, which made me appreciate what it takes to be one. Then with my family moving to Orlando in her retirement years she was enthusiastic of our arrival, our houses basically walking distance apart, welcoming us and suggesting fishing and picnicking at the fishing grounds or the pier with Manong Gil and my parents who also retired in the same neighborhood at the time, getting together on holiday celebrations and birthdays, or going out to eat on these special occasions, all helped make our transition to life in FL better because it was quite a move for our young family from Illinois. Now back in Illinois facing the twilight of our own working lives and our kids grown, but often reminiscing about our time spent in FL, including those with Manang Violet and Manong Gil, my parents, and Ate Resie.  These are all good times which we miss, and we certainly miss my beloved cousin and her smile, bright cheery voice and laughter in those gatherings.  Dear Manang Violet, may you have peace and eternal joy in the gathering in Heaven.  Love, Pol, Julie, Bryan and Briana

We are so very saddened by the loss of Mya’s Lola, Violet. She had a lovely smile and laugh and was such an amazing cook (we still remember those egg rolls and puncit!!). Perhaps most of all, though, we remember how devoted she was to her family. We are thinking of her and all of you!

We will remember manang Violeta for being a good cook, especially for her "palabok".   Our stay in Orlando although many years ago is still fresh in our mind - the line dancing with the Varilla relatives whom we met for first time was so much fun and our visit in the Universal was a happy memories.  

R.I.P. manang, may the Lord keep you forever in the palm of His hand.


Auntie Volet is one of the most sweetest person we know. She is very giving. I remember the first time we went to Florida, her and Uncle welcomed us into their house. She took care of us like we are her own. Everytime she visits us here in Cali, she is always laughing and loves to eat dinengdeng. We will miss you deeply Auntie Volet. We love you, until we meet again.

We drove to Flint, Michigan, in the early 1990s with Orlan , Manang Volet’s cousin, and visited her and the rest of the family. Manang volet was a selfless, generous, and pure-hearted person. She took care of us while we were staying at their residence, from food preparation to city tours. 
Manang, your beautiful smile will be sorely missed. REST IN PEACE MANANG🙏🙏🙏
