Bruce Cooper Evans

Bruce Cooper Evans, 78, of Brewster, MA passed away on December 20, 2025 at Cape Cod Hospital from complications related to congestive heart failure. A Celebration of Life service will take place at First Parish Brewster Unitarian Universalist Church (1969 Main St, Brewster, MA) on Saturday January 3 at 1pm.

Born in Springfield, MA on August 24 1947 to Ruth (Jameson) and John Evans Jr., Bruce and his sister Jill were raised in Lancaster, MA. Bruce was an avid student and, following in his father’s footsteps, he attended Virginia Tech. Bruce was both a hardware and software engineer who helped develop some of the earliest ATM machines.

Bruce enjoyed many things, including golf, tennis, bridge, bicycling, coffee and bourbon Manhattans. He was a life-long musician who loved all things percussion. But most of all, Bruce loved his family and friends.

Bruce leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Ann Marie Evans and his daughter Kathleen (Mulcahy) Hopper, son-in-law William Hopper and grandchildren Zachary and Evelyn Hopper. Survivors include his sister Jill (Evans) Chase, brother-in-law Elliott Chase and their children Sarah, Alex and Allison. In addition, Bruce will be greatly missed by son-in-law Patrick Sessions, his wife Melissa Sessions and their sons Kelly and Keagan. Bruce was pre-deceased by both his parents and his eldest daughter, Mary Ann (Mulcahy) Sessions.

Bruce, a Cape Cod resident since 2000, was active in his local community, serving for many years on town committees including the Brewster Conservation Commission and the Community Preservation Committee. Bruce also volunteered at the Chatham Railroad Museum, played in the New Horizons Band of Cape Cod and was a lifelong member of the Unitarian Universalist church.
