David Allan Davidson, native of Brooklyn, New York, and a longtime resident of Mount Tabor, New Jersey, and Brevard, North Carolina, concluded his long life surrounded by loved ones in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
The only child of Scottish immigrants George and Isabella Davidson, David graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, and immediately enlisted in the Army Air Force. He served in occupied Japan from 1945-1947. On his return, he followed in his father’s footsteps, working at the family printing business in Flatbush.
Shortly after, he met the love of his life, Isobel, a registered nurse and Scottish immigrant. They married in 1955 and remained together until her death in 2007. To the delight of family and friends, he carried on her famous shortbread recipe and shared it with friends and family throughout western NC and beyond.
A gifted athlete, David excelled in basketball and baseball, where he met several lifelong friends. He won countless medals participating in the annual NC Senior Games and many still decorate the bedrooms of his grandchildren. Also an avid bowler, he could be seen on the lanes into his 90s.
Mild-mannered and outgoing, David enjoyed many things, including ski outings with friends and trips to numerous global destinations. He was also a voracious reader, never without a good book.
David is survived by his loving children David (Anne) of Eastham, Massachusetts; Andrew (Miki) of Fountain Hills, Arizona; and Lesley McGraw of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren Erina Davidson (Teter); Kelly Davidson; Alex McGraw (Kaitlyn); Heather McGraw; Rachel Davidson and Luke Davidson, along with three great-grandchildren, Zuri, Calum and Lou McGraw.
