

Edward Joseph Hurley, 95, of Eastham, MA entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born in the Charlestown section of Boston, MA to the late John and Frances (Mahoney) Hurley. He lived in Medford, MA where he met the love of his life Nancy Ann (Edwards) Hurley. They later moved to Quincy, MA and Warwick, RI before retiring to their family's home on the Cape in Eastham 30 years ago.
Edward was a proud WWII veteran of the United States Navy. As part of his service and dedication to our country he served as a Machinist's Mate Second Class and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal with 2 stars reflecting his service in the South Pacific.
Edward was an architectural draftsman and before his retirement a building inspector for The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Edward had several interests and loves; he was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans, a member the Knights of Columbus, and CCD teacher. He was Vice President of the Eastham Non-Resident Taxpayers Association, member of the Eastham Council on Aging and a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels. Edward enjoyed gardening, ice skating, tennis and bike rides to the ocean. He was a hockey coach and beekeeper. Edward had a thirst for knowledge, his family has fond memories of him sitting on the sun porch reading. Above all else, Edward loved spending time with his family.
Edward is predeceased by his baby sister Mary Hurley, sister Dorothy Cummings and brother John Patrick Hurley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Nancy Ann (Edwards) Hurley; his loving children John Patrick Hurley of VT, Michael Edward Hurley of Eastham, MA, Marianne T. Hurley of Weymouth, MA, Suzanne F. Minichiello (and late husband Ernie) of Saugus, MA, Dianne M. Leslie (and husband Todd) of Quincy, MA and Julianne M. Mosolgo (and husband William) of Norfolk, MA. He is also survived by 3 adored grandchildren Kristen Curran (and husband Kevin), Victoria and Olivia Mosolgo and his 2 great-grandchildren Bridget and Sean Curran. He is also survived by 4 nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Friday, January 22, 2016 at St. Joan of Arc Church 61 Canal St. Orleans, MA 02653. The family will receive friends and relatives at church 9:30am prior to mass. A committal service with military honors will follow at 1pm at Massachusetts National Cemetery Connery Ave. Bourne, MA 02532.
