Born and raised in Brewster, Gwen attended Nauset Regional High School and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Gwen began her career working for Mayor Kevin White as Director of Public Celebrations for the City of Boston Jubilee 350 Parade. After that, she was employed at the Boston Herald for 34 years as Vice President/Promotions and was the spokesperson for the paper.
Gwen volunteered for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and was active with the Neely Cancer Foundation.
Following her retirement, Gwen returned to the Cape because at heart she was a Cape Cod girl! She had a love for the beach—boating, reading, sipping a “How do you do!?”, and being with friends. Gwen was a consummate cook and entertainer! Subsequently, the family home on Gage’s Way was the center of great food, fun and camaraderie with friendly games and competitions! As one friend said during those gatherings, “If you want to find Gwen, just follow her giggle!” Gwen treasured her many friends from our Cape Cod communities and beyond, high school and college days and work associations. She is loved and cherished by all.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Jean and John Gage. She is survived by her sister, Pam Gage, and her longtime family friends, the O’Connors.
The family would like to express gratitude to Harbor Point Staff and Broad Reach Hospice for exceptional care, comfort and compassion and a sense of humor during Gwen’s stay there.
In memory of Gwen’s life, donations may be made to the following: Brewster Ladies Library, 1822 Main Street, Brewster, MA 0263; Lower Cape Outreach Council, 19 Brewster Cross Road, Orleans, MA 02653; or, Alzheimer's Family Support Center of Cape Cod, 2095 Main Street, Brewster, MA. 02631.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Gwen, on June 7, 2025 at the Crosby Mansion in Brewster, MA.
