

He was lovingly cared for by his wife and family. Henry was born in Acushnet, Massachusetts in 1933 to Lillian and John Veit. He graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School in 1951. He was an airman first class USAF from 1953 to 1957. He served as a diesel airplane mechanic on B29’s while in service. He spent his childhood summers in Orleans with his uncles and aunts. After his time in the service, he moved to Orleans and worked for his uncle at Ray Perreault Earthmoving Business. Henry then started as a diesel mechanic and became a foreman at Cape Cod Truck Service where he worked for 36 years. After retirement he drove a school bus for Laidlaw Transit for 20 years. He was an active member of the American Legion Post # 308.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Barbara Pattillo and first wife Phyllis Veit. He is survived by his wife Esther A. Veit, sisters Cheryl Durocher of Wareham ,MA and Deborah Lariviere of Boca Raton, FLA, daughters Sherry O’Donnell of Orleans, Karen Veit of Thomaston,ME and Dawn Davis of Orleans. Also his stepchildren, Debbie Rogers and Charlie Young of Orleans and Darrell Young of Myrtle Beach, SC, 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
