Retired Barnstable Deputy Sheriff
BREWSTER - Howard W. Eldridge, 88, lived in Brewster most of his life. He worked as a shipbuilder, carpenter, clerk, and served for 30 years in the Sheriff’s Office at BCHC.
He was a Freemason for over 60 years.
He survived brothers Ralph and Robert and his wife, Hope. He leaves brother Gordon of New Freedom, PA; daughter Susan Smithwick of Eastford, CT; and sons James of Brewster and Steven of Eastham. He has six grandchildren, Ryan and Kevin Smithwick; Andrew, Zachary, Brendon, and Madison Eldridge; and four great grandchildren, Gavin, Aurora, Clark, and Iris Smithwick. These children were the joy of his life.
Visiting hours will be from 1pm-3pm on Sunday, March 27th at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. A Masonic Service will begin at 1:45pm with a funeral service following at 2pm. Burial will be private.
