ORLEANS – James E. Nichols, 90, of Orleans, MA died April 5th at the Cape Cod Hospital. He was born in Harwich, MA in 1926. He spent 50 years as a custodian at Orleans High School and Nauset Regional Middle School and Coastal Engineering Co, Inc. James was an on call fireman and one of the original members of the Orleans Rescue Squad. He served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran.
James is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara (Daniels) Nichols of Orleans; daughter Michele LaPointe and her husband Richard LaPointe; grandsons, David LaPointe, and Joseph LaPointe and his spouse Blake; granddaughter, Melanie Mulligan and her husband Bill Mulligan; sister-in-law Beverly Greene of CT; and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his son Paul E. Nichols.
