Janet Fink Bell, 96, of Brewster, MA passed away on December 2, 2014. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick A. Bell. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Cavallaro and her sons, Jeff, Skip, and David and daughter-in-laws Catherine Harned Bell and Leslie Weyn Bell. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Janet will also be greatly missed by her “adopted” daughter, Bonnie Toman of California and her longtime dearest friend, Elliott Abbott of Yarmouthport.
As a young child Janet moved from place to place as her father, George Fink, managed hotels and inns from Chicago to New York. Her education was diverse and she attended at least 16 schools before graduating salutatorian from Robert Louis Stevenson School in New York. She was educated and skilled in art and modeled for famed illustrators. Mr. & Mrs. Johnny Cosgrave were artistic friends and introduced Frederick (Freddy) to Janet. In no time at all they were married and were soon on the road again to summer stock in Skaneateles, NY and to the SW USA with Ralph Edwards on WWII Bond Tours.
Moving to Pleasantville, NY with their 4 children allowed the family to settle for a while. But Freddy’s new job with Radio Free Europe landed them in Munich, Germany for 5 adventurous years. Then it was back to Pleasantville before Janet and Freddy were off to international adventures in and around Amman, Jordan. International conflicts finally ended their foreign activities and in 1971 good old Cape Cod became home. With radio station WVLC as the core of activities, Janet became part of the community wearing diverse hats at the radio station. Both Janet and Freddy, known to his following as Ted, were also involved in The Chatham Drama Guild.
After an 8 year detour to Hobart, NY, Janet returned to the Cape for the remainder of her active life. She was also a devoted member of First Parish Brewster.
Janet was being comforted by her daughter, Susan and her son, Skip at the time of her passing at Epoch of Brewster.
A service celebrating her life will take place after the holiday season. The family wishes that any donations in Janet’s name be made to either First Parish Brewster or Brewster Fire and Rescue.
The family also extends their heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff at Epoch of Brewster.
