

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Theodore K. DeBoer, who passed away on October 31, 2012. Jan is survived by her two devoted daughters, who are especially grateful for her 94 years, Susan Mangan, and her husband, Scott, of Brewster and Linda Lauer, and her husband Mark, of Chantilly, VA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Melissa Mangan Fox, and her husband Colin, of Broomfield, CO, Gregory Mangan, and his wife Nolie, of Mount Pleasant, SC, Stephen Mangan, and his wife Meghan, of Westport, CT, Abigail Lauer Litow, and her husband Matthew, of Vienna VA, and Kellen Lauer of New Orleans, LA and by nine great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Nicholas Fox of Broomfield, CO, Edward and Wesley Mangan of Mount Pleasant, SC, Charlotte and Annabelle Mangan of Westport, CT, and Brooks, Annie, and Sydney Litow of Vienna, VA. She is also survived by a brother, J. Kenneth Golder of Louisville, CO. Born in Manhattan, NY, Jan was the daughter of the late Hilda (Haslun) and John K. Golder.
Jan grew up in Clifton (Allwood), NJ and graduated from the Northfield School for Girls, now Northfield Mount Hermon School, Gill, MA in 1948 and Cedar Crest College, Allentown, PA in 1952.
Jan and Ted were married in September 1952 and during the next eight years their two daughters were born, and they moved with Ted’s job from New Jersey to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to Idaho Falls, Idaho and back to Oak Ridge. They settled in Niskayuna, NY in 1960 and lived there until 1991 when they retired to Brewster.
Jan received a master’s degree in education from Russell Sage College, Troy, NY in 1972. She taught 5th grade at Martin Luther King Elementary School, Schenectady, NY for the next 10 years. After teaching, she started a business, Country Lamps and Accessories, and for many years held decorator showcases at her home. She and Ted also enjoyed spending time at their second home on Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks.
Jan was an avid collector of antiques; she enjoyed going to antique shows and auctions with Ted and her “antique” friends. In Niskayuna she was involved in P.E.O. Chapter AE, the First Reformed Church, antiques groups, garden clubs, and the American Association of University Women, to name a few. Later in Brewster she was an involved member of Brewster Baptist Church, having chaired the annual Holiday Fair and gift basket making, P.E.O. Chapter Q, serving as a charter member and past president, and the Brewster Garden Club. She also enjoyed making Nantucket baskets.
A family service and interment will be held at a later date.
Jan’s daughters would like to offer their utmost thanks and appreciation to the staff at Maplewood at Brewster for the loving care that she received.
