

John Patrick Devlin was born Sept 4, 1938 in Newark, NJ. John was delivered at home by the Newark Fire Rescue Squad and later became a Newark firefighter in Rescue 1. After graduation from St. Michael's high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in England as an air traffic controller at Greenham Commons. He joined the Newark Fire Department in 1964. In his 25 years of service as a firefighter, he served in 6 Engine, Rescue 1, and 28 Engine and was decorated for both heroism and community service. John retired from the fire department in 1989 and moved with his family to Cape Cod where he remained active with St Joan of Arc and Our Lady of Lourdes Churches, the Boy Scouts, the Elks Lodge, and as a member of the Harwichport Golf Club. He passed away on June 16, 2010 after a sudden illness. John enjoyed life and time spent with family and friends; he leaves behind many happy memories and laughter.
He is survived by his wife Mary Louise Devlin and children John Michael Devlin; Lisa Marie Mercer; Lt.Col. Timothy James Devlin, USMC; and Joseph Patrick Devlin, along with 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and his brother, Patrick Devlin.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, June 20th, from 2-4pm & 6-8pm, in Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 21st in St. Joan of Arc Parish, 61 Canal Rd, Orleans.
