It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin C. Maguire of Eastham, MA, formerly of South Boston and Milton. Kevin passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 14, at the age of 69.
Kevin was the beloved son of the late Anne M. (Barry) and Charles P. Maguire, and the loving partner of Theresa A. Ruane of Eastham. He was the devoted father of Melissa A. and Jessica L. and her husband Tyler Angel, and proud brother to Karen A. Maguire, Paula M. Ellis, Susan P. Daley, and Barry Maguire and his wife Kara. He is also survived by his step-grandson, Lucian Ruane, many nieces and nephews, and countless lifelong friends who became extended family. He shared a lifelong bond of respect and gratitude with his former wife, Kathy A. (Linehan) Maguire, as co-parents of his cherished daughters.
Growing up on Thomas Park in South Boston shaped Kevin’s character: resilient, loyal, and compassionate. He graduated from South Boston High School in 1975 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University. His studies at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government deepened his leadership in crisis management.
Kevin’s Catholic faith was a source of strength and direction, first nurtured as an altar boy at St. Augustine’s Church. This faith guided his lifelong commitment to service, courage, and compassion.
Kevin proudly served his country as a firefighter in the United States Air Force, stationed in Europe and later in Maine, before beginning a distinguished career in law enforcement. Rising to Captain in the Boston Municipal Police Department, he later served in leadership at Northeastern University, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, Simmons University, and ultimately as Executive Director of Public Safety and Police Chief at Tufts University.
Kevin’s professional legacy extended beyond his formal career. As founder of Blue Sky Safety and Security Associates, LLC, he dedicated himself to mentoring, advising, and improving public safety practices for organizations across the region.
What truly defined Kevin were his values: service, courage, bravery, resilience, and compassion. These were not abstract ideals but principles lived daily—in his devotion to his daughters, his support of colleagues, and his quiet acts of generosity.
Kevin also lived fully beyond his work. He found joy in travel, hiking, kayaking, biking, running, reading, and the companionship of his pets Lucy and Sofi. His circle of family and friends was a constant source of love and laughter.
Visitation will be held at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester Street, South Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass in Gate of Heaven Church, 615 East Fourth Street South Boston at 11 a.m.
Kevin’s memory will live on in the countless lives he touched, the communities he served, and the enduring love of his family and friends.
