

Larry Bernhardt, 84, of Brewster died on 9/24/17 after many years living with heart disease.
He was born in his grandfather’s house in Owl Creek, outside of Tamaqua, PA. He was the loving husband of Carolyn Bernhardt. His first wife Judie died in November, 1997. He and Judie moved to Cape Cod in 1989. In retirement, he enjoyed boating, fishing, woodworking, painting, writing and taking wonderful vacations and cruises with his beautiful wife Carol.
He graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1950. After attending Bloomsburg State College in 1950, on a football scholarship, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 during the Korean War. He served three years having been stationed in San Francisco, San Diego, Adak, Alaska and Port Lyauety, French Morocco. His assignments were in the cryptographic communications division of the U. S. Navy.
Larry started working with AT &T in May 1954, retiring in 1984 with just over 30 years of service. While with AT&T, he attended night school on the GI Bill at Villanova University, then transferring and graduating from Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA. With AT&T, he held various posts including equipment maintenance, engineering and sales assignments. In sales, as the National Account Manager for several multi-national companies, he had complete responsibility for their AT&T provided communications requirements worldwide. Some of those accounts were: United Aircraft, The National State Police, CBS-TV, American Express and Metropolitan Life.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by three daughters; Laurie Wiltshire, Sag Harbor, N.Y., Kristine McTaggart, Atlanta, GA, and Heidi Carroll, Kingston, MA. He is also survived by three stepchildren; Robert Smith, Warwick, RI, David Smith, Harwich, MA and Barbara Banks, Newburyport, MA; 14 grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
A funeral service will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit on September 29th at 11 a.m. Burial will be at National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday October 2nd, 2017 at 1 p.m.
