It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Margaret Potocka, beloved wife, mother and sister, on September 30, 2021. She was the wife of Ian Potocki, and daughter of Tadeusz and Hanna Stasiak.
Marie was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1942. In her youth, she was an active member of the Polish scouts, where she met her future husband, and made lifelong friends that remain some of her dearest to this day. She married Ian in 1962. Marie graduated with a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Warsaw in 1967. As a psychologist, she primarily worked with children with special needs and troubled youth.
In 1979 she emigrated from Poland with her husband and two children. She arrived in Michigan with her family in 1980 and lived briefly in Alabama before settling in Danbury, CT, where she lived for over 35 years. In 2020, she moved with her husband to Cambridge, Massachusetts to be close to her daughter and son in law, as well as expert medical care in her rare disease.
Marie was a kind and loving person, a wonderful mother, wife and sister and a devoted friend. Her first passion was dedicating herself to the ones she loved; her other passion, was adventure and travel. She managed to step foot on 6 continents, and since her retirement, took over 30 trips with her husband which she planned herself. She was also an avid reader, baker and chef, and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She is survived by her husband Ian, her daughter Ella, her son Tomasz, her son in law Richard and her sister Anna.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, October 30 at St. Joan of Arc Church, followed by burial in Orleans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to CurePSP at www.psp.org.
