Martha McCarthy, 89, of Orleans, MA, died on Friday, January 2, 2026, after a long illness. Martha was born on July 25, 1936 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Siiri and James Jordan. Martha received both her bachelor’s degree (1958) and her master’s degree (1963) from Fitchburg State College. She began her teaching career in Stamford, Connecticut where she worked with special needs students. Later, she taught early elementary grades in various school districts.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, Justin McCarthy. They lived in Greenwich, Connecticut and after retirement they moved to Brewster, Massachusetts and later, Orleans, Massachusetts.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2026 at 10:30 AM, at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans. An 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Church, 61 Canal Road, Orleans, MA. Burial will be at 2:00 pm in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
