She graduated from Stamford High School in 1952 and received her Bachelor’s degree from University of North Carolina at Greensboro, then a women’s college, in 1956. After graduating, Mary Louise returned home to Stamford and taught in the Stamford Public Schools. She went on to get her Master’s in education from Fairfield University in 1968 and a Certificate of Advanced Study in 1976.
Teaching science and math was Mary Louise’s passion and she continued to teach until 1997 when she retired to Eastham, Massachusetts. In 1990 Mary Louise received the Connecticut Science Teachers Association Excellence in Science Education Award for her accomplishments. At the time of her retirement, she was a science curriculum specialist at Rippowam Magnet Middle School. After moving to Eastham, Mary Louise continued her commitment to education, volunteering at Eastham Elementary School and serving on the Eastham Elementary School Committee. She also volunteered at the Eastham Public Library and served on the library Planning Committee.
Having enjoyed community theater in Connecticut at The Ridgefield Workshop for the Performing Arts and The Town Players of New Canaan, Mary Louise volunteered at Cape Rep Theater after moving to Eastham. She was also a longtime volunteer at St. Joan of Arc Thrift Shop. Mary Louise cultivated and maintained deep friendships, enjoyed travel, and doted on her nieces, nephew, and their children.
A lifelong lover of animals, over the years Mary Louise shared her home with cat companions, Brandy, Mehitabel, and Phoebe. She is survived by her nieces and nephew, Sarah M.
