

Otto A. Hackbarth, 82, of Brewster, MA passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Cape Cod Hospital with his wife, children and Pastor at his side. Son of the late Otto A. (Sr.) and Anna (Farken) Hackbarth he is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years Constance (Connie) Bachand Hackbarth. Born in Avon, CT, June 8, 1930 Otto graduated from Canton High School (CT) in 1948 – voted Class Musician – Otto loved music. He continued his education by earning a diploma from the Hartford Institute of Accounting. In 1951 Otto married his long time sweetheart, Connie. Following their marriage Otto joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served his country with distinction for 4 years obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After serving he returned to Avon and continued employment with The Collins Co. for many years. He retired from Edmunds Gages (Farmington, CT) as Office Manager and Assistant Treasurer. Otto and Connie fulfilled their dreams and became “washashores” by moving to Brewster, Cape Cod in 1994 where he spent his remaining years enjoying family, entertaining friends (old and new) yard work and travel. He was a member of the Schiller Lodge #25 Collinsville, CT, Friends of CC Museum of Natural History, and the German-American Club of Cape Cod.
Otto was predeceased by his brother Harold Hackbarth and sisters Louise Henschke and Pauline Mischak. A loving and devoted father and grandfather he leaves his daughter Lynn Archambault and husband Rich of Hebron, CT, son Craig and wife Vickie of Glastonbury, CT. and grandchildren Kirsten and Brian Archambault and Leslie Hackbarth. Otto also leaves sister’s-in-law Judy Schur and husband Richard, Lenore Ehrhardt, many adoring nieces and nephews and countless loving friends.
A lifelong Lutheran and former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Avon, CT, Otto joined St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Harwich, MA where there will be a Celebration of Life on February 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM officiated by Pastor Christian G. N. Holleck. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 310 RT 137, Harwich, MA 02645 or St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely Street, Avon, CT 06001.
