

He was the beloved husband of Sandra (Keefe) Stockwell with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage earlier this year. Born in Worcester on May 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen Stockwell. Russell graduated from Auburn High School in 1954 and Worcester State College in 1960. After teaching math at Burncoat Jr. High in Worcester, he joined State Mutual Life Assurance Co. He worked as a program engineer for the Foxboro Company for 21 yrs., and continued as a consultant after retiring. Russell and Sandra began their family of five sons – Scott, Todd, Mark, Kyle and Jason – in Worcester, moved to Long Island, North Attleboro and Plainville. Russell built his retirement home in Orleans on the same lot where he spent his boyhood summers. Love for family was the center of Russell’s life. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren at the beach and family functions. He enjoyed playing cards and golfing with his sons and grandsons, and treating his grandchildren to ice cream. While he and Sandra traveled internationally and around the States during retirement, they also loved visiting their children and grandchildren in New England – especially attending their grandchildren’s activities and special events. Russell made service to the community a priority. He volunteered as a Cub Scout pack leader when his sons were young. He was a member of the Plainville Lions Club, serving a term as president, and was treasurer at the Plainville Methodist Church for several years. He volunteered in retirement with “Charlie’s Angels” for Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod andassistant treasurer at the Federated Church of Orleans. When he wasn’t with family or helping others, Russell could be found with friends in the Orleans Men’s Coffee Club, the Retired Men’s Club of Cape Cod and the Wednesday Night Cribbage Club in Dennis. In addition to Sandra, Russell is survived by his sons, Scott, and his partner Shannon, of VT.; Todd of NH.; Mark, and his wife Ann, of MA; Kyle of ME; and Jason, and his wife Kelly, VT. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Amanda Culbertson, and her husband Dan; Shane Stockwell, and his wife Jessica; Kathryn, Chris, Blake, Tyler, Connor, Brady, Zachary, Rebecca and Hadley Stockwell. He was a great-grandfather to Grace, Zoe and Emma Culbertson, and Aria and Maverick Stockwell. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Douglas Keefe, sister-in-law Linda Keefe, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Arthur Stockwell, sister Jean (Stockwell) Heebner and beloved niece Nancy (Heebner) Congdon.
