Theresa Walwer aka Nanni, Mother, Mom, Gramma, Hey Terri, Terri 1 passed on to her next journey on March 19 2025 at 0745. She was born at her family’s home at 30 Rice St in Shrewsbury MA in 1932. She was the second oldest of 5 children, three boys and 2 girls. She grew up on the family farm and attended Assumption High school in Worcester. In June of 1951 she married one Donald D Walwer, also from Shrewsbury and a close friend of her older brother Bill. After living in Leicester MA for 9 yrs the family, D&T plus 4 very young children moved to Eastham MA. It was a rather unplanned event but typical of the many events in the family’s life that Terri would have to adjust to, accommodate, and make work. “The Donald” was not always forthcoming with plans, in some part because they were forced to make changes when they could just to keep the ball rolling. The move to Eastham would prove to be the best decision they ever made as living on the Cape would rule and anchor the remainder of their lives. Life in their household was abundantly full of multi generational family and friends from all walks of life. Terri was devoutly religious and very involved in St Joan of Arc Church. She also insured the rest of her family followed suit regarding her faith.
In addition to being a full time homemaker, no small task with 4 children, Terri held a number of paying positions over the years with her time as the Admin Assistant at Orleans Elementary School being her favorite and longest tenure. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1980 they spent their winter months roaming around the world and living in Naples FL, another place that would dominate their lives for 20+ years. As with their life on Cape Cod, Naples would prove to be full of activities, friends, a tour boat business, and various escapades / shenanigans. It was a great time to be in that area.
The last 20 yrs of Terri’s life were spent in Eastham living among family and friends. As appropriate, the escapades continued until her husband went on ahead of her in June of 24. It is rumored her Donald is curious what took her so long to get back together with him. An avid walker, she could be seen wandering about her area, often times miles from her house.
She is survived by 2 brothers,1 sister, and her three children Marci, Gary, and Patty. Her first child Michael predeceased her by 40 years but she carried him with her always. Her tribe also includes 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, most of whom had the opportunity to know their Nanni well which is one of life’s blessings for living a long fruitful life.
She is and will remain missed.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11am at St. Joan of Arc Church, 61 Canal Road, Orleans, MA. Her celebration of life will follow from 12pm to 3pm at Hog Island in Orleans.
