She was born in Cleveland Ohio to Carl and Lena Cox. Her early life was shaped by her parents’ Quaker ministry. Support from her Aunt Mabel Lockwood made it possible for her to attend college at the University of Indianapolis where she studied literature and education and met her future husband, Harley “Griff” Griffith. She taught school for more than 35 years, including many years with third-graders at Edgelea Elementary. Griff and Carol built a large and happy family in their more than 50 years of marriage.
A lifelong teacher and learner, Carol organized many Christian learning experiences, from adult education at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette, Indiana to Bible studies at Brookdale Lake Orienta in Altamonte Springs, Florida. She thought of her students until the end of her life. Her “golden memory” in her final years was of seeing multi-generational impacts of her teaching. She was proud to be part of a family that loves learning. She loved to travel, and she read books and poetry until the end of her life. She was loved very much by friends and family"
At the age of 98, Carol was preceded by many people she loved – her husband Griff, her parents and siblings and most recently her niece Linda Griffin.
She is survived by her sons, Kerry, Greg, and Brad Griffith; daughter in laws, Nina, Linda and Tiffani Griffith; grandchildren Amy (Ben), Adam (Anne), Anna, Joseph (Kyra), and Sara Griffith; great grandchildren, Henry, Nora, Rosemary Graydon, Alice and Andrew Griffith; cherished nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
Carol had many friends throughout her adult life in Lafayette and in her time at Brookdale facilities in Florida. Her survivors span the country, from Florida to California and her memory will be a blessing for loved ones near and far
In honor of Carol's love of literature and in lieu of flowers memorial donations would be welcomed at Reading is Fundamental rif.org
