

Mrs. Helen Hayashi Brown, birth name Hayashi, Shigeko, homemaker, 85, of Daytona Beach, Florida, traveled on her final journey to paradise to be with her husband, Verol Brown, other family members, and the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service (viewing) in her honor will be held between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the Volusia Memorial Park and Funeral Homes, 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174. The funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, March 17, 2017 at 1 p.m. Shigeko was born on October 24, 1931 in Amami Oshima, Kagoshima, Japan (Amami archipelago). Shigeko moved to Okinawa, Japan (Ryukyu archipelago) in early 1950's where she met her soul mate, Verol Brown, and eventually married him on May 29, 1963 in Okinawa, and legally changed her name to Helen Hayashi Brown. Helen gave birth to a daughter, Valerie, and a son, Randy. Helen and her husband eventually retired, and relocated from Okinawa to Daytona Beach, Florida in March of 1993. Helen loved gardening, sewing, pottery, ceramics, gemstone cutting and attending church. Helen also enjoyed cooking Japanese/Okinawan dishes for her friends and family. Helen is a long time parishioner of Iesu no Mitama Kyokai (Spirit of Jesus Church), and Pastor Seigi Moto of Virgina Beach, Virginia will give prayers during the services. Helen is survived by her daughter, Valerie Armenta, son Randy Brown, granddaughter, Ariana Armenta and grandson, Anoah Armenta. Flowers may be sent to the memorial park the day of the viewing.
