

Jerry Gene Deffenbaugh entered his heavenly home on February 8, 2015 at the age of 81. There will be a graveside service at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Thursday, February 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Family will be having a Celebration of Life on Saturday in St. Augustine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Carolyn. He was the son of Sue Motley Dunn and Edwin Deffenbaugh. He is survived by three brothers: Nellis Dye, Gary Deffenbaugh, and Daniel Deffenbaugh; three children: Susie (Mike) Sullivan, Donna Kay, and Sandra (Mike) Porter. He was predeceased by two of his children: Jerry “Buddy” Deffenbaugh, Jr. and Teresa Featherstone; and two of his grandchildren, Jennifer Kay and Elizabeth Featherstone. He was the proud grandfather of Amanda (David) Brawner, Sarah (Daniel) Thompson, Angela (Brian) Hunter, Andrew (Heather) Kay, Jeremiah Reddish, Sean Featherstone, Alicia (Brendan) St. Gelais, Adam Bowers, Leslie (Rodney) Coffey, Michael Porter, Jr., Amber Deffenbaugh, Angel (Jake) Cottrill, and David (Alyssa) Burgin; and the loving great-grandfather of 20 precious children. Jerry attended Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, Florida where he was a star football player; he graduated in 1951. He joined the Marines, and was honorably discharged due to an injury during his military service. He married Agnes Lourcey Hasentufel and they had five children. He loved family and was a devoted father. In his later years, he was the chaplain for the VFW 3108 in Hudson, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Emory L. Bennett VA Nursing Home in Daytona Beach, FL, or that you visit a local VA nursing home and spend some time with those heroes that served our country.
