Joseph V. Sodaitis, age 95, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at his home. Joseph, born January 25, 1917 in Kudirkos Naumiestis, Lithuania, emigrated to America (New York) in 1949 with his young wife and oldest daughter. During his lifetime he did many varied things that ranged from literary interests on a number of levels to becoming an artist in his forties. Joseph retired as an assistant architect working on subway graphics for the City of New York Transit Authority. While working there his interest in art was ignited which lead him to study with scholarships at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the New York Art Students League, as well as privately. For many years he had participated in a large number of art shows in New York, Chicago, and Ormond Beach, some of which were one-man shows. His 33 years of retirement afforded him much time for his passion of painting while enjoying all that Florida has to offer in the company of his wife and the many friends they met and made as members of the Daytona Beach area Lithuanian Club, where Joseph was a choir member for many years.
His wife of 68 years, Aldona, preceded him in death January 2011. He is survived by daughters Egle Maria (Vaclovas) Daunoras and Rasa (Arunas) Siulte; grandson Jonas (Ruta) Reventas and granddaughters Laura (Philip) DeAngelis and Roma (Brendan) Gallagher as well as ten great grandchildren, Karigaila, Algirdas, Perkunas, and Jurate Reventas, Thomas, John and Joseph DeAngelis and Gwenyth, Evan, and Lauren Gallagher.
A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Ormond Beach on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11:00AM. Arrangements are under the care and trust of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.volusiamemorialfunerals.com.
