Memorial Funeral Home, with a visitation beginning at 6pm for family and friends . Mrs. Higgs was born in Manchester, England on December 16, 1926 to James and Gladys Shields. She was married to Leonard Higgs in January 1945, moving to Canada in 1946, as a Canadian War Bride. Immigrating to Connecticut in 1958 and moving to Florida in 1979, our mother was the center of our world. Our parents were married for 49 years. Mom was predeceased by our father Leonard, her mother and father James and Gladys Shields and, grandson Tyler Higgs. She is survived by her children Susan LeCates, Jane DiBenedetto, David Higgs, James Higgs of Ormond Beach, Donna Higgs, Holly Hill, Joanne (John) Wason Norfolk, Ma and Alan (Karen) Higgs, Darien, CT. Grandchildren Scott, Richard, Jennifer, Heather, Brian, Greg, Steven, Lisa, Joey, Chris, Michael, Jeffrey, Abby, Sarah, Allison, Jillian, Morgan, and Alexis, and 18 great and great- great grandchildren. She was a member of the British TBPA, and AARP. She enjoyed knitting, traveling and most of all her family. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Ormond Beach YMCA, Sterthaus Dr. Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
