Leslie Edward Strachan was born on June 15, 1921 in the Caribbean Island of Jamaica. He was the seventh child of Isaac and Margaret Strachan on June 15, 1921. On November 13, 2017, he was called to his eternal home. Leslie was a self-made man and for those who were privileged to know his life story, they can attest to a life of obstacles turned into opportunities. He migrated to London England in the early 50’s to expand his horizons. Faced with racial prejudices, he did not allow those experiences to derail him. In the face of no agreement, he kept striving for better. His journey brought him to the United States in 1955 where he settled in Connecticut. He would end up at the Emhart Corporation, a multinational company that manufactured machine and security systems, among other things. He rose to the position of supervisor in his division and an expert in maintenance of the carious machines. With the changing times of this big company and big time merger and the unrelenting Connecticut winters he was ready for warmer climate, so he moved to his beloved Palm Coast in 1982 where he resided until his death. Leslie travelled extensively and he especially enjoyed cruises. He had a passion for landscaping and cultivation of some of his favorite Jamaican foods. He generously shared the fruits of his labor with neighbors and friends. Friendships and relationships were nurtured and tended to in the way he took care of his plant, with love, patience and generosity. He loved to socialize with his friends and playing regular games of dominoes cemented their bonds. As a testament to who he was to his friends, they remained loyal and supportive to him up until his death. Leslie Strachan led a life of godly principles. He believed in “do unto others as you would have them do to you.” He was simply a great, kind soul. He will be forever remembered by those who have had the privilege of associating with him.
He is deeply mourned by his wife, Enid Strachan; children, Thelma, Harold and Cora and their families. The family of Vanetta (pre-deceased ); the family of sister Agnes (predeceased in June 2017) and his only surviving sibling, 98 year old Sidney who resides in Jamaica and his family, a host of other family members, friends and well-wishers mourn him. He will be surely missed.
May Leslie Strachan Rest In Peace.
