

Peter T. Affatato died at the age of 92 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He served as President of the Bar Association of Nassau County, was a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association, past Chairman of the Nassau Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Affatato was born in Brooklyn, New York and attended St. John’s University and Law School, receiving his J.D. in 1949. He was admitted to the Bar that same year and commenced private practice. He was appointed to the Grievance Committee for the 10th Judicial District and later appointed to the Committee on Character and Fitness where he served for fifteen years.
Affatato served in the Air Force during World War II and was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands for three years. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and was separated as a Captain in the Judge Advocates Department.
In 1954 Affatato was a founder of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #1931, in Levittown, New York. He served as Exalted Ruler in 1957, as District Deputy for Long Island in 1960 and as President of the New York State Elks Association in 1965. His years of service were recognized when he was unanimously elected National President of the B.P.O.E. in Denver, Colorado in 1986. He served for fourteen years on the Board of Education at Island Trees, New York and as President of the Board during his tenure. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Briarcliffe College in Bethpage, New York, the only Chairman in the College’s history.
Affatato leaves his wife of sixty-eight years, Irene, having met her at St. John’s in 1941; Daughter, Irene Burkhard and her husband, Thomas; and daughter, Anne Affatato.
Mr. Affatato was laid to rest at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL with Military honors by The United States Air Force.
