

A celebration of life for Ronald Dewey Jacobs, 73, of Ormond Beach, FL, who passed away on June 2, 2011 at his home, will be 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, with the Reverend Richard Grasso as the celebrant. The family will be receiving friends for two hours prior to the service (11:00 am till 1:00 pm) at the funeral home. The interment will be at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach.
Ron was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where at the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy from 1955-1959 with his longest duty served aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal CV-59 Aircraft Carrier. His pride in his service to the Navy and his time aboard ship, is something he was quite proud of, as he shared many stories with family and friends about his experiences.
His career in the Firefighter Industry began as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Holly Hill, Florida. Beginning in 1965, Ron served his police and fire career of thirty years with the city of Ormond Beach. His progression through the ranks, led to his appointment as Fire Chief for the city of Ormond Beach, where he served as chief for twelve years until his retirement in 1997.
Ron enjoyed fishing, boating and woodworking. He enjoyed music, especially playing guitar and harmonica. His passion was spending time with his family and friends. He was an active member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, Ormond Beach. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Jacobs Rinehart, step-father, Matthew L. Rinehart, Sr. and his brother, Matthew L. Rinehart, Jr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 53 years, Florence Lacy Jacobs; three children, Theresa Lee “Teri” Jacobs, Ormond Beach, Tracy Jacobs Cromwell, Ormond Beach and Mark Ronald Jacobs, Fort Lauderdale; two grandsons, Joseph Harold Cromwell, II, Phuket, Thailand and Christian Mark Jacobs, Daejeon, South Korea; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express our sincere thanks to numerous family members and friends who have overwhelmingly shown support and love throughout this time.
