

Russell J.Nicastro passed away on March 5, 2011 at the age of 89. He was born on August 28, 1921 in New York City to Peter and Dorthea Nicastro. He was a Navy pilot and served in World War II. Russell was a business entreprenuener who enjoyed meeting and talking to anyone willing to listen. He was the Commodore of the Stony Brook N.Y.Yacht Club and a lifelong member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Russ was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Knights of Columbus for 75 years. He enjoyed giving advice and sharing his business expertise as a counselor of the National Score Program. He was very active in the City of Ormond Beach Planning and Budget Boards. and an active member of the Quality of Life Board. Russ was a parishioner of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; his son, Laurent James Nicastro; daughter, Donna Grove; sons in law Jesse Grove and Scott Alles: sisters, Eileen Gianatasio and Pam Rice; step daughter Tracey Gerstle her husband Brad Greenfield and granddaughter, Siobhan. He was a joy and inspiration to his family, friends and community. Volusia Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. Funeral Mass will be 10am Tuesday March 8 at St. Brendan's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Volusia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday March 7 from 4pm-6pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL.
