Victoria A Cairo

Victoria “Viki” Anna Cairo passed away with the care of Haven Hospice at The Windsor of Gainesville on July 29, 2022, at the age of eighty-seven. She will be deeply missed by her sister Norma Kmet (nee Dusanek), her daughters Annamarie Cairo-Tijerino and Yolanda Cairo Raftice, sons-in-law Wilfredo Tijerino and Michael Cairo Raftice, as well as grandsons Joseph and Jon Paul Tijerino, and great granddaughters Harper Lynn and Aurora Quinn Tijerino. She is predeceased by her husband Joseph Cairo, parents Bohumil and Anna Dusanek (nee Horky) as well as her brother Bohumil Dusanek

Viki was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 20, 1935. She attended The University of Chicago as an Art Education major and became an Art teacher and Guidance Counselor in the Chicago School system until her marriage and the birth of her daughters. Once they began school, she returned to substitute teaching. In 1980 she and her family moved to Ormond by the Sea, Florida, where she spent many years teaching Art and elementary school at Grace Academy. Viki was a strong woman who passed this strength of purpose on to her daughters. Later she and her husband moved to Gainesville, Florida, to be closer to their beloved grandsons, Joseph and Jon Paul. She shared her creative gifts with her students and community, she was an active member of Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville and enjoyed bowling with her husband in their league at Splitz. Viki and Joe enjoyed travel and traveled the U.S. extensively with their daughters. In later years they were part of a travel group organized by Ann’s Travel and enjoyed river cruises and many other excursions.

Her family is grateful for the loving care Viki received at the Windsor of Gainesville and the support she received from Haven Hospice in her final transition.

A graveside service will be held at Volusia Memorial Gardens in Ormond Beach, Florida, on Monday August 8, 2022 at 11 am. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday August 13, 2022, at Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville, FL at 11 am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in the name of Victoria Cairo to Haven Hospice or the Humane Society.
