

Vincent D. Cerreto (83) of Ormond Beach, Florida was called to the Lord by the heavenly angels on February 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Vince was born in Willimantic, Connecticut on October 8, 1934, son of Antonio L. Cerreto and Irene E. Cerreto (Burns). He relocated to Ormond Beach, Florida with his wife Frances Cerreto (Mercer) in October 2002 where they joined the community of Aberdeen.
Vince was always a hard worker, using his ingenuity and determination to make a difference in the fields he was passionate about. He was a Korean War veteran and received the Airforce Outstanding Achievement Award as well as twenty-five decorations. Vince was active in the Airforce for ten years and served in many states and countries around the world. He then enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1973 rising to the rank of Master Sargent and receiving honorable discharge after twenty-one years. Vince retried with a total of 31 years in the military. Additionally, he was a training officer for nine years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Connecticut.
In his professional career, Vince was trained as a tool and die maker. He worked at Connecticut Atomic Nuclear Energy Labs, United Nuclear Corporations, Pratt Whitney Aircraft, Rogers, United Technologies Research Labs, and American Enka Corp. (Brand-Rex) before working at the University of Connecticut School of Engineering where he retired in 1994. Throughout his professional life he was passionate about teaching others and inspiring them.
Vince was married to Frances on August 11, 1956 in Warner Robins, Georgia. He was known for his unselfish devotion to his wife and family. The oldest child of immigrant parents from Italy and Canada, Vince worked hard to ensure future generations would be left a legacy of their family history. His grandfather, Vincenzo, was a source of his lifelong pride and inspiration and guided him throughout his life often quoting “it’s not how long you live, but how wide you make it.”
Vince was a man of many talents and interests including woodworking, gardening, photography, boating, golf, black powder shooting, and any other way he could use his creative talents. He was involved in local civic organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Elks, Rotary, Chiefs Club U.S.A.F, V.F.W, Knights of Columbus Council, and in Florida, the Aberdeen Veterans.
Vince is survived by the love of his life, Frances (Mercer), son Anthony M. Cerreto (Donna), daughter Pamela J. Long (Brian Ludolph), and his siblings Elaine (Brousseau), Madeline (Fitzgerald), Nancy (Deuel), Robert, and Janice (Nuhn). He is additionally survived by his grandchildren Sean Marcisin, Jeffrey Cerreto, Erin Long, Brittany Marcisin, Katie Cerreto, and Arianna Cerreto. He had special affection for his brother in-law Leslie Mercer, his wife Marjorie, and their family, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Vince loved being surrounded by family and friends so he could share his life stories. A visitation will be held Wednesday February 7, 2018 from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 600 S. Nova Rd.,Ormond Beach, FL, Thursday February 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow with U.S. Air Force honors to be rendered at Volusia Memorial Park Ormond Beach.
