Professor Warren R. Ehrhardt passed away Monday June 14, 2010 after a brief illness. His life was dedicated to teaching the students and nurses at Daytona State College for 41 years. Warren was born in Sandusky, Ohio to Clara Kimmil Bird and Reuben Gilbert Ehrhardt. He attended Sandusky High School, Ohio State University, and North Carolina State University where he received a Masters Degree in Parasitology. During his early years in Sandusky, he worked as a milkman, an ice delivery man, a gandy dancer for the Ohio railroad, and often worked summers at Cedar Point Amusement Park. In 1968, he started teaching Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Concepts of Disease, at Daytona State College. He taught there until May 2009. During the summers and part-time throughout the year he worked for East Volusia Mosquito Control, and is responsible for the flourishing ecology in the Tomoka Basin. As a parasitologist, he went on two medical missions to Honduras with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church from Lake Mary, and was deeply moved by these experiences. He published his own Microbiology Laboratory Manual used at Daytona State College for many years. Over the years Warren judged many science fairs and helped children of all ages to love science. He loved collecting stamps, bicycling, jogging, and was a well known tennis player at City Island.
