I have great memories of Al from the 7th Oshawa scouts where he was a leader through my four years with the Troop. He was a dedicated mentor, capable of being both demanding and kind, a perfect combination for a youth leader. Al had a very positive influence on me in my time with him in the early Sixties.  My best wishes to Al's family and friends.

Al was such a dear friend to myself, Phil, Tim and Chris and he will be greatly missed. We are all better people because of knowing him. He taught us a lot over the years, not just by his skills and talent, but by his caring ways and his encouragement. Al has made a huge amount of young people into better citizens, which was his goal in life. Our sincere condolences to Robert, Tina and the Shetler family.  God Bless you Al and Rest in Peace.

Al is a wonderful man to have met. Although I did not know him long, he was a delight to meet. 7th Oshawa is surely going to miss him. Our group will not be the same without him. Rest in peace Al. We'll miss you.

My dearest condolences to Robert and his family. I didn't know him well as I am friends with his son Robert, but the few times that i met the man he always welcomed myself and others with open arms.

Rob - my sympathies go out to you and your family at this time of loss.  Your Dad was a great leader and provider.  I remember the great camping trips with Al and Shirley...... my thoughts are with you.

I am sorry for your loss. Al spent many evenings in my parents home as I was growing up and we had many scouting adventures together. I looked up to Al as a great role model through my personal & scouting years and fondly remember all those times.

My association with Al comes through the sport of shooting, to which he was an avid devotee.  Year after year he came to Toronto in the middle of winter to volunteer his time and expertise at the Canadian Airgun Grand Prix, where his only reward was a little pizza at lunchtime.  Al was especially fond of young shooters, donating a trophy in Shirley's name to the best junior shooter over the season.  Our shooting community will fondly remember this valued and dedicated member who gave so selflessly to all.  My sincerest condolences go to Robert and the entire Shewring family.

I cannot imagine what my years in Scouts would have been like without this man being there.  His direction and consideration allowed me to achieve as much as I did. I remember camping in Haliburton with him and his family.  Hearing that he is gone saddens me greatly.

Dear Robert and Family,

My condolences on the loss of your father. Based on the many kind words I have heard from my Uncle, Dean Shewring, he was a wonderful man. May you find comfort in the friends and family around you during this difficult time.

My friend Al touched many young peoples lives for the better over his many years as scouter,  friend, advisor, and shooting coach.He encouraged them in their endevors, taught them patience and control,and advised them on the best paths to take. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by many young men and young women.I'm going to miss you old friend.My deepest condolences to all those you leave behind.

My sister and I have wonderful memories of camping with the Shewring family every summer.  They were such a loving family unit and they shared that sentiment with those around them.  I will never forget how kind and considerate Al was with both Robert and Shirley.  I know Robert and the rest of Al's family have wonderful memories of their times together.  I am so happy to have known him.  My condolences to you Robert and to Al's family and friends.

I remember Al as my Venturer (Scouts) advisor, shooting coach and someone I looked up to immensely. 
I will always remember the yearly canoe trips he would take us Venturers on and scuba diving in his carpeted pool. 
My condolences to his whole family for the loss they have suffered, especially his son Robert.

I'll always remember Al's warm personality and friendly advice he was always willing to share with me about  target shooting. With Al's passing Ontario shooters have lost a great guy with years of experience and dedication to our sport. My sincere condolences to Al's Family and Friends.

My uncle Alan was a wonderful person. Generous, quiet, modest and always there when we needed him.  My condolences to his son, Robert, his sister Betty and to all the family and his many friends. I was happy to have had one last Thanksgiving dinner with him.  My only real regret is that he always beat me at euchre. I wish I could be there with you.
