1923 to 2026
Peacefully, while sitting in his chair listening to music, on May 4th in his 103rd year.
He began his life on a farm in Cavan Township, with his parents Arthur & Elsie (Conlon) Sutton along with his four brothers: Robert, Raymond, Howard & Earle and his sister Elsie, all predeceased. He is survived by his sister-in-laws Helen Shea and Lola Mathews.
From these early days on the farm, music played a large role in the family. From violins, piano, clarinet to the alto sax, they played at local venues for Saturday dances. Dad settled on the alto sax. While playing at an event, with a band, he met Phyllis (2015). Together during their 65 years, they raised a family.
Carol (Ron), Paul (Sandy), Janet (Brian), Donna (Jamie) (Mark), Scott (Lynn). They enjoyed and were a major part of their 10 grandchildren and their spouses/partners lives. The legacy continued with 10 great grandchildren. “Have you had your grandpa talk yet?”
He was an educator & lifelong learner, beginning in one room school houses & finishing as a superintendent. He and Phyllis spent many happy years gathering with friends, travelling, curling, supporting the Blue Jays and celebrating life events with family.
Friends and extended family will miss his presence.
He frequently was heard to say “Who would believe a farm boy from Cavan would have all this”
We were blessed to have him in our lives.
Our family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the health care team members for their kind, compassionate and professional care of our father.
His funeral service will be held at St Mark’s United Church, 201 Centre St S, Whitby on May 30th at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life/Reception to follow in the Church Hall, from 12 to 3 pm.
If desired, memorial donations to CNIB, St Mark’s United Church, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
