Ernest Singleton

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ernie Singleton, on December 1, 2024, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Elsie of 62 years. Loving father of Jacqueline (Steven) and Rebecca (Jamie). Loving Grandad of Michael (Jenny), Anne-Marie (Mike), Sarah (Mathew), Brittany (Richard), Nicholas, Thomas, Rebecca (CJ), Serena. Great Grandad to Pheonix, Azlyn, Savannah, Austin, Emerson, Payton, Charlie, Evelyn and extended family in B.C.

Ernie was born in Stockport England. He immigrated to North Vancouver, B.C., in 1962 with Elsie where they were married and then started their wonderful adventure together. Ernie and his family then moved to Ontario in 1967 and that’s where they have lived ever since. Ernie worked for Ontario Hydro for 30 years as a welder/pipefitter (local 46). Ernie was a member and Past Master Mason of King Solomon Lodge, 329 in Jarvis, Ontario. Ernie’s love for fishing was a passion that defined him, especially fly fishing because he tied his own fishing flies. His happiest times fishing (for the big rainbow) was with his closest friends Elwyn, Ron and Tom, on some riverbank in Ontario. He was always eager to share his fishing stories with family and friends. His passion for fishing and the outdoors will live on through the family. He enjoyed attending the annual angler show in Toronto with his grandsons Michael and Nick, where he could often be heard talking flies and sharing his most recent fishing expeditions. His family would often be in awe of his ability to chat with anyone about any topic. He always had friends wherever he went, if he didn’t know you he soon would. Ernie loved spending time with family especially with grandson Nick.

A service to honour Ernie will be held in the chapel at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. Reception following at the funeral home.
