Surrounded by family, Joan passed away peacefully and with grace at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday September 6th, 2017, in her 85th year after a brief and unexpected illness. Beloved partner of Sandy Air and mother of Janice Lea Attersley (Wayne Roberts) and Gordon Thomas Attersley, Joan was the loving grandmother (Nana) of Jamal, Natasha and Lynn as well as her precious companion dog “Dunnie.” She is survived by her sister-in-laws Norma Stone (Art) Stone and Carleen Attersley as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Joan also treasured and treated as family her close friends and special neighbours. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Robert Attersley (Bob) as well as her brother Harry Evans and parents Gordon and Elsie Evans. Joan was a loving mother, gifted dance teacher, pianist, artist and active community member who embraced life with energy, humour and passion in all she undertook. An active member of the Station Gallery as well as many other local art clubs, she dedicated her time to supporting the expression of art in many forms and was selected for inclusion in number of prestigious juried art shows. She was an avid hockey fan (especially the Whitby Dunlops!). In recent years, Joan and Sandy hosted a number of wonderful team reunions in her backyard. She loved her active correspondence with many people across the country and beyond. Joan made Whitby her home for over 50 years.
