She was predeceased by her stepmother Sheila Clark, her sister Catherine Clark-Armstrong, nephew Zachary Pace and brother-in-law Finn Nielson.
Karen was born on December 5, 1948, in Peterborough, Ontario to the late William Clark Sr. and Ora Clark (nee Wilson). She attended elementary school in Peterborough and high school in Peterborough and Owen Sound before earning her BA degree in history and politics from Glendon College York University. She then attended and graduated from the Toronto Teachers College. Karen had a long teaching career with the Etobicoke Board of Education where she helped to instill a love of learning and a desire to succeed in her students and her nephews and nieces.
She was a lifelong learner, read voraciously, loved the British Royal Family, was a collector of Royal Doulton Figurines, was always on the hunt for the perfect book to give as a gift, supported many children in developing countries, had a treasure trove of information and opinions on many subjects, thoroughly enjoyed her cottage on Snake Island in Lake Simcoe, and was a forever Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234). A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to the staff at Kipling Acres Retirement Home in Toronto and to the doctors, nurses and staff at both Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Etobicoke General Hospital in Toronto.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to SickKids Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
