

Passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 1st, 2012, in her 74th year. Lois was predeceased by her husband Robert “Bob” who passed away in 2002. She will be missed in so many ways by so many. Daughter of the late John and Ada Matthews, she is survived by her sister Joan Matthews and brother John Matthews, wife Doreen, all nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Lois was loved and adored by her daughter Nancy and son Chris along with faithful friends and companions Dodger and Shelby. Earlier in life Lois supported the sports endeavours of Nancy and Chris by becoming very active in numerous sports organizations. She gave freely of her time to the Mackenzie Park Community Association, Oshawa Minor Hockey, Oshawa Minor Softball Association and the Oshawa Ringette Association. Lois was instrumental as a member of the organizing committee for the first national major midget tournament “The Wrigley”, held in 1974, in Oshawa. She spent the majority of her time and could often be found in an arena or baseball diamond cheering on Nancy and Chris. In later life, Lois was an active volunteer of the “Outreach” group at St George’s Anglican Church and enjoyed all arts and crafts. She and Nancy were often sighted scouring the tables at arts and crafts events throughout the province. Lois was retired from the Durham Board of Education and previous to the Board, she worked as the office manager for local Doctors Lowes and Perry. The family would also like to thank long time caregivers Debbie, Connie and Nadine for their care and friendship over the last number of years. Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Wednesday, July 4th from 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at ST. GEORGE’S MEMORIAL ANGLICAN CHURCH (51 Centre St. S., Oshawa) on Thursday, July 5th at 11:00 a.m. Interment Thornton Cemetery. Lois was a passionate dog lover and in lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Humane Society of Durham or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
