It is with deep sadness and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Martha Kwapisinski, on March 8, 2025, at the age of 77. Though her departure came unexpectedly, we take comfort in knowing she did not suffer and left us peacefully, surrounded by the love she gave so freely to all.
Martha was born to Andrew and Rita Pitula in Pfarrkirchen, Germany, and was raised in the vibrant Beaches neighborhood of Toronto. She graduated from Malvern Collegiate and later attended Victoria College at the University of Toronto, where she earned her degree. Martha went on to have a fulfilling and dedicated career as a teacher with the Durham Catholic District School Board, where she touched the lives of countless students with her warmth and caring.
Along with her passion for education, Martha was deeply involved in the local Ukrainian community, always giving of herself to support others. Martha loved the peaceful escape of the cottage her father built in Grafton, where she spent many happy days feeding and entertaining loved ones. The cottage was her sanctuary, a place where she created countless memories with those she cherished. She also found great joy in tending to her beautiful garden, where she planted flowers to her heart's content.
To Martha, family was everything. She was the heart of our family—a loving mother to Andrew, Sonia, and Natasha, and the adoring Gramma to Sami, Emma, Emerson, Harrison, and Mia. Her joy was found in the laughter and love of her children and grandchildren, and she was known for her playful spirit, often engaging with her children’s friends in the most joyful and fun-loving ways. Martha always had a kind word, an open ear, and a smile that would light up any room.
Her light-hearted humor, gentle heart, and infectious laughter will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
Martha’s family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating her life at Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West on Saturday March 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Funeral Service in the chapel at 1:30 PM. Interment to follow at St. Wolodymyr and St. Olha Ukrainian Cemetery.
In her memory, we will hold onto the laughter, the love, and the warm presence she shared with all of us.
May she rest in peace, and may her spirit continue to bring joy to our hearts, as she so beautifully did in life.
