Mr. Hackett was my Grade 6 teacher at Regent Heights PS in Scarborough. He is a teacher I will never forget!  Seems so true to form that I recall vividly the day he sent me to the caretakers office to get a can of elbow grease!  I had no idea!  An awesome memory a bit embarrassing in hindsight he always made me feel special!  So sad to hear of his passing but glad he lived a passionate life!

Mr Hackett was my grade 6 teacher at St.Margarets public school.  He taught me how to write very good as were both left handed. Anytime anyone asks me how I write so good, I tell them it was cause of you. Tears are in my eyes as I write this cause you were one of the best teachers I’ve had, and always made sure I didn’t drag my work lol plus other stuff I’ll never forget.. Loved the time that I had you as my teacher and they live with me forever. Thanks Mr Hackett ❤️ Now my niece is left handed and I plan on teaching her what you taught me 

I was so sad to receive the news of my former colleague Steve Hackett's passing.  I really enjoyed my time working with Steve at St. Margaret's Public School in Scarborough for 5 years (1996-2001). Best wishes to his family.

Bernie and I were shocked when you informed us of Steve's passing.  Whenever he passed our house we always chatted and had a chuckle over something. He was the epitome of a fit, active, healthy man. It doesn't seem possible that he is gone from our neighbourhood. I play with that hybrid club he gave me quite often.  I will cherish it all the more and think of him whenever I swing it.  Not that it improves my game!

I first met Steve in the early 70's when he was on staff at Regent Heights School.
Over the years I got to know Steve, the golfer, teacher and poker player.
Steve reminded me of the "Say Hey" baseball player, Willie Mays. He  was the guy that energized the team, with his style and personality. He made everybody feel good.
I'll truly miss him. ... not to be forgotten.

We have lost, among so many other things, a very proud poppa and a cherished friend.  Deepest sympathies to Lynn, family & friends.

My sincere condolences to Lynn, Shannon, and Mark. I first met Steve as a new teacher at St. Margaret's P. S. In Scarborough. Steve was a wonderful teacher, colleague, and friend. He had a wonderful sense of humour and he could bring out the best in his students. Steve re-appeared at my school this December in his role with the Lions Club. He graciously donated gifts and groceries to give a family in my school community a Christmas to remember. You will be remembered and missed by the many whose lives you have touched.

Lynn, Shannon and Mark so sorry to hear of the passing of Steve. From that first meeting on Carlton Crt. so many years ago to teaching me to drive standard because my trans am came too early and I did not know how to drive one. My thoughts are with you all at this time.

I know I'm one of many who have great childhood memories of Steve. As a soccer coach, who had the coolest KITT car and just a great guy. Though it wasn't often in recent years, he was always someone I was happy to see, and I'm fortunate to know him.

Steve Hackett, the first person we ever met when we looked at 196 Madawaska Ave,I took a picture then and knew if this was the type of people living on Madawaska we were going to live here .God blessed us and gave us the Hacketts as next door neighbours.We now know we will miss Steve and the camaraderie on our front deck on those lazy summer days but we honestly believe he is better off without the pain and suffering.Our deepest condolences to the Hackett family Vic and Willy

When a man like Steve returns to the stars there is nothing that can replace him.  But there are those who's lives he touched.  Those that will carry-on and try to make him proud...to remember him as a beloved friend.  A man of character and pride who gave every day in every way.  This is the Steve Hackett I know and knew.

Steve used to teach beside me at Samuel Hearne back in the 70's. He was a riot to teach beside. Great sense of humour and incredible with the kids in his class. I'm sure he was a great dad and grandfather. He sure looks quite prolific here looking at this obituary. There's another star in the sky. He made a lot of lives a little brighter. He's keeping people laughing somewhere, warm or cold! My condolences to his family.

My papa was always caring and always willing to help me with anything, including my math work. 

One night when my family and I were at my nan and papa's house I found it really chilly, so my papa went and got a sweater for me and told me I owed him 11 cents for it. I still owe him that 11 cents, but one day I'll give it to him when we meet again. Yes, he may be gone physically, but spiritually he'll always be here to laugh and continue to share great memories with us. 

I'll forever cherish this sweater and never forget all the great memories I've had with him. 

I love you papa.

You welcomed me into your family with open arms. You gave me your daughters hand freely and without trepidation. You loved me like your own son and always made family the first priority. As a parent, papa and husband you were second to none and will be missed more than words can convey.

Steve was an amazing man. He always knew how to put a smile on everyones face. For the years I have known him he was always so nice to me and made me laugh.

How do you put into words what a great man Steve (poppa) was.  From the first time I met him he made me feel like myself and my children were family.  I will always treasure the times you picked me up from work and our talks on the way home.  I always took the advice you gave me to heart and enjoyed the times we shared.  I have many memories that I know I will cherish forever.  I loved how you made family first priority and when we needed a laugh I knew that you would come up with something funny to say.  Even though you are not physically with us I know in my heart you will still be guiding us all on our journey here.
