

Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital on Monday, January 2nd, 2017 in his 92nd year. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 69 years Laura (Myles) and daughter Susan Chandler. Predeceased by his son Bruce, parents James and Mary, sisters Helen (Leo Huffman), Margaret (Bruce Morrison), Elizabeth Ann, and brothers Vincent (Eileen) and Michael. He will be dearly missed by sisters Nancy Allan, Patricia (Peter Bagnall), Catherine Petre, and brothers James (Joan), and Paul (Carol). Bill will be missed by sister-in-law Joyce Hancock and Betty Myles. He leaves behind grandchildren John and Jason, great grandchildren Tyler and Matthew as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Detroit in 1925 but the family soon moved back to Ontario. He joined the RCAF and served in World War II as a tail gunner on Lancaster bombers. After his return to Canada Bill spent his working career with A&P Food Company, latterly as Vice President of Operations. He and Laura retired to their property on Kennisis Lake in Haliburton before settling in Oshawa. In his retirement years he enjoyed both painting and wood carving focusing on the outdoors and wildlife. Bill was an outgoing and generous person and will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Wednesday, January 11th from 7 – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. GREGORY THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH (194 Simcoe St. N., Oshawa) on Thursday, January 12th at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
