Bessie Jane (Dawson) Smith, 76, of Markle, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014. She was born on October 6, 1938 in Ossian to the late Lehr and Lois M. (Archbold) Dawson. She worked as a CNA in Fort Madison, Iowa, but also as a homemaker caring for her family. She enjoyed reading and loved her family, especially her grandchildren who were the apple of her eye. Surviving family include her children, Mary Ann (Paul) Wilson, Kid Coy (Teresa) Smith, and Donna Marie Kammerer; sister, Evelyn “Donnabel” Reed; eight grandchildren, P.J., Natasha, and Jeremy Wilson, Angie Norris, Kayla and Brandon Smith, Michael Spoores Jr., and Jessie Click, and nine great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, Coy Smith; and siblings, Eloise Straight, Iona Smith, Lloyd Dawson, Leroy Dawson, Carl Dawson, and Georgiana Dawson, and a granddaughter, Kayla. A funeral service will be 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St., Ossian with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 4-8 pm on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to COPD Foundation.
