

John Wallace Septer, 73, of Ossian, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011. He was born on July 6, 1937 to the late John Chester and Norma (Roush) Septer. Mr. Septer graduated a bachelor’s degree from Huntington College and a Master’s in Education from the University of Saint Francis. He worked at a teacher for 17 years at Portage Junior High and 19 years at Wayne high School before retiring from Fort Wayne Community Schools. He was a member and an elder at New Hope Lutheran Church. He was an academic, speech, and chess coach at the schools where he taught. He also enjoyed spending time golfing, fishing, and attending Huntington University basketball games. Surviving relatives include his wife of 50 years, Johannah (Winkelman) Septer of Ossian; children, Kim (Ted) Stull of Walkerton, Kathy (Steve) Lee of Ft. Wayne, John Steven (Tosha) Septer of Huntington, Amy Ginter of Ossian; 15 grandchildren; siblings, Annette Hopkins, Neal Septer, and Andrea Green. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws Fred and Bertha Winkelman. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 8824 N State Road 1, Ossian, IN with calling one hour prior. Calling hours will also be from 1-4 and 5-7 pm Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home 120 West Mill St. Ossian, IN. Memorials may be made to the New Hope Lutheran Church or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
