I will miss you more than I can say Joe!  I knew your heart was bad but I thought your crustiness  would keep you going forever.  I have many many memories of Joe but I think what I really will remember about Joe is how much he loved his kids at school.  These were kids that are hard to love but Joe did.  He defended those kids and their right to be.  Those kids will now have one less person to fight their fight.  He also loved his wife and his boys.  Those of us that truly understood Joe knew he had a huge heart (though broken) We had many laughs together, some tears, and I will miss him more then I can say. I was privileged to see Joe almost every day during the school year. As the school nurse, Joe would call me often to check on one of his students as so many of them were medically fragile. His concern for his students was evident and he worried about them when they were sick or undergoing medical procedures. At the same time, we worried about Joe when he wasn't at work, because he seldom missed unless he was really feeIing sick. I will miss seeing him and pray for comfort and peace for his family.

I worked with Joe in the Royal School Dist. He was devoted to his students, & his family. And as we were both from Montana, we always had lots to talk about. His students will miss him & so will I. His family are in my prayers.

Joseph Gratton I never knew him by this name I always called him Dad even though there is no blood relation. I am close friends with his son Jacob and that is how I met the man who let me call him dad. The first few nights I ever slept over at Jake's house I didn't know if i should be afraid of dad. He yelled and i was not use to it but from the reactions of jake and mom it was just a normal thing in their household. it didn't take long to notice that when dad yelled it wasn't always out of anger he yelled when he sang or even when he told jokes, it emphasized his personality. I have many memories of Dad and Jake and Mom but there is one that sticks out and it was when Dad and Mom let me live at their home for some time. they just took me in without hesitation, after a few months of living there i walked in the kitchen and Dad was making Mom lunch. I told him I wanted to thank him for letting me stay under their roof and that i wanted to give him a gift. he told me to thank mom and that he didnt want a gift he told me to stay in school and get all my school stuff figured out. This is why he let me stay was so that i can figure my life out and so that he can see me choose a better path for myself. Joseph may have come off hard headed but he had a big heart and he welcomed me into his life with open arms and treated me as family and i showed him the same respect i would my own father. I miss him and i love him. He will always be a father to me and he will always have a positive influence in my life to finish school and make something of myself. I wouldn't be where I am if Joseph hadn't invite me into his life. Rest well dad and know that you are loved.

I also had the privilege of meeting Joseph Gratton through his son Jacob. The first time I met him was for Jacob's Birthday party in the eighth grade. When I knocked on his door for the first time, Joseph answered and even though he had no idea who this new blonde kid was, he invited me in and as we talked a minute before seeing Jacob I already felt welcomed in his home. Every time after that when ever we would see each other he would always smile and talk with me. I always thought of Joseph as a fun person to be around and someone who loved to spend time with his family.

I only met Joseph a couple of times, but each time he was congenial and gracious. However, I do know his son Jacob well, and if the measure of a man is judged by his offspring, then Joseph was a great man. Jacob is also congenial and gracious: a reflection of his dad and an indication of the values Joseph taught his boys.

I remember when Joseph Gratton would always come through my line at Wal-Mart. He would always ask how my day was going and how I've been. He would crack jokes or at least try to sometimes, if my day was bad there. I remember one time he said I was his favorite cashier. I met him through his son and one of my best friends, Jacob Gratton.He loved his family, his job, and his life. He was a great man, father, and friend. He will always be remembered by me and others who got to know him.

I met Joseph Gratton through his son, Jacob as he invited me and many of his other friends over for special events such as the annual Haunted House and Mystery Murder role-playing dinner party. Joseph was always there with his wife, Vivian, to supervise the events and would sometimes even play along with us. 
I carry with me the memory of Joseph playing the role of detective as the Gratton family residence transformed into the Cadbury mansion, and all those who attended became their assigned characters. I was Mrs. Cadbury, owner of the mansion, Jacob was my son, and Christy was his wife. According to the story, a murder had taken place in the mansion many, many years ago; A case that would remain unsolved until one man hired Detectives Vivian and Joseph Gratton to visit the mansion and investigate. Everyone enjoyed the delicious dinner that was prepared for the event as the detectives read the cards that gave clues as to who the suspect may be for the murder of my younger brother, who also played a role as one of the residents in the Cadbury Mansion. 
 The role playing dinner party was a success! And the mysterious case was solved, thanks to the help of detectives, Joseph and Vivian Gratton. I feel like this event brought us all closer together because everyone had a role and used their imaginations to work together and bring the event to life while having fun, all at the same time. And the fact that Joseph decided to join the fun and play along with us made it even better! It is a memory I often look back to with a warm feeling in my heart and a smile on my face. In loving memory of Joseph William Gratton, he will be greatly missed!

I hope your personality shines even brighter now.

I'm going to miss you, I remember every time I came over to your house you would give me so much crap and a hard time but I'd dish it back out it was only until christy told me you were joking that I'd feel like an idiot, I'm going to miss that a lot.
